Introduction
Contemporary Furniture signifies various styles which have been popular in the last century including Art Deco from the '20s, modern from the '50s, Scandinavian from the '60s, Italian from the '70s, and minimalism from the '90s.

Characteristics

Contemporary Furniture feature Smooth and clean geometric shapes. Upholstered furniture often wears black, white, or other neutral tones in textured natural fibers.

Wood, glass, metal, and stone materials are often used.
Furniture is simple and uncluttered, without curves or decoration. Sofas, chairs, and ottomans have exposed legs. Unlike other traditional styles, beds and chairs usually have no skirt, trim or fringes.
Pillows & cushions and give color and texture to clean geometric shapes.
Typically, you will only find one bold color for a particular piece of contemporary furniture, although there are times in which you will find one or more colors used in combination with one another.

Generally you will not find any pattern e.g flowered pattern, checkered pattern, etc within contemporary furniture pieces. If you are looking to have a pattern pattern, then you should be sure to consider another type of furniture style.
